HD Video and Mylar

13 minutes

This video was shot in the Peruvian Amazon from a low raft on a pond inhabited by 3 anacondas. The sound is the ambient noise of the place: insects, the click of the camera shutter, and the sound of an airplane overhead that was tracking a radio collared jaguar in the vicinity. The video was part of a large body of work that reflects on how we understand remote landscapes through technology and media, the transformation of nature into an industrial or synthetic landscape and how nature is informed by the language of science. The color and structure of this piece is informed by maps that are made from great distances such as satellite, infrared and LIDAR imaging. In Anaconda Pond, the map and video have merged to create a semi-psychedelic landscape, the colors of the aerial map/model having been transposed onto the ground.
